	WHAT STORY DO YOUR MATERIALS TELL?

 Through our pioneering work in the built environment, our community engagement initiatives, and our existing materials consultancy, Revival is here to demonstrate, facilitate, and normalise a resourceful approach to sustainable design and construction.

Stepping outside of convention, Revival is a multidisciplinary practice facilitating projects through a variety of roles, strategically curated to optimise impact and instigate change.
Presenting as Principal Contractor (commercial and domestic), Structural Engineering Consultants (design and certify), Existing Materials Consultants, Joinery and Furniture Makers.

A multidisciplinary practice established with the clear ambition to make sustainable building practice more accessible to everyone.

Revival is unique:

We are the only Existing Materials Consultancy in Australia, and hold B Corp accreditation.

Our manufacturing facility operates exclusively with existing materials — no new materials are allowed through the door.

We are the only organisation in the construction industry with the capacity to present as structural engineers, principal contractor, and joinery/furniture maker all at the same time, on the same project.
We are registered building practitioners in VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, WA, ACT.

Resourcefulness seems to have been misplaced in our industry;&#38;nbsp; indulgence has become normalised and celebrated.

With an unwavering commitment to purpose, by 2025 Revival seeks to inspire legislative change introducing a legal framework around how the industry is required to handle existing materials.

Revival curates initiatives and engages in projects which serve as a platform to showcase how we propose existing materials should be handled.

		<description>

	FIRST DO NO HARM—
THE REVIVAL MANIFESTO

We cite the mantra ‘First Do No Harm’ as a concise pointer to the principles at the heart of our philosophy; and as the ultimate ethical compass to reference the impact of our decisions against.

Our practice is predicated on this mantra, it is our compass when navigating our commercial journey, it is the rationale behind our actions, it shines a light on the industry traditions we seek to disrupt.

We approach resources as custodians, not consumers; we seek to support others in doing the same.

We embrace an approach to handling resources in a way that does no harm to people or the planet.

We believe that the most sustainable materials in the world are the ones that already exist.

We believe that resources are ours to care for in a way that postures future generations to adhere to this same philosophy.

The approach to resource as custodians, rather than consumers, has never been so vital. Custodianship brings an inherent duty and awareness that the experience encountered by those in the future is contingent on your actions now.

Custodians of land.
Custodians of resource.
Custodians of buildings.
Custodians of cities.

We have been raised as consumers of resource, rather than custodians.

Unfortunately this defines everything: how we design, how we engineer, how we order, how we build, how we survive.

The excruciating absence of anyone ever being held to account for obscene levels of waste.

When we consider how we might handle the existing materials across our cities, in the context of new development; the design and construction industry encounters a poignant opportunity to uphold some kind of distinction between where we are at now as an industry, versus the industry of yesteryear which was predicated on unbridled destruction of natural resources.

Somewhere along the way, resourcefulness as a value seems to have eroded while capitalism-inspired consumerism has given rise to infrastructure and systems which reinforce and reward linear design and consumption… we acknowledge the resulting deficit of skills and values that we now require to survive and operate sustainably.

		<description>

	THE MOST SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS IN THE WORLD ARE THE ONES THAT ALREADY EXIST

	“Use the shit you already have to help build your new shit.” — Robbie Neville, Revival

	&#60;img width="2400" height="1600" width_o="2400" height_o="1600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/77c6b68c30c63afa5e952953a436a3c598165ef0edfe33d204381c2ea0e5fe97/RP_RN.jpg" data-mid="155795581" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/77c6b68c30c63afa5e952953a436a3c598165ef0edfe33d204381c2ea0e5fe97/RP_RN.jpg" /&#62;

	In simple terms, our role as Existing Materials Consultants is to help you use the materials you already have; our role straddles the project from feasibility through to occupied use, facilitating everything involved in utilising your existing materials in your new design development.

The sustainability impact is immense — maximising resourcefulness and retaining the sequestered carbon contained in your existing materials, whilst simultaneously minimising embodied carbon in your project by avoiding the need to purchase and consume new construction materials.

Our engagement ideally commences prior to Planning Applications or even Concept Design; we need to identify the commercial feasibility of repurposing existing materials as early on in the project as possible. This enables us to provide guidance enabling all stakeholders to adopt an approach which plays into the strategy of utilising existing materials.

Our role as Existing Materials Consultants is typically divided into three phases of scope:

Prepare commercial feasibility report, provide existing materials 'kit of parts' to inform new design development, document environmental impact, sequestered and embodied carbon;
Work alongside demolition contractor and principal contractor to facilitate salvage, coordinate handling, transport and storage; and
Work collaboratively with design partners, to effectively incorporate existing materials into the new design.

It’s an honour to facilitate the evolution of existing materials from their current use into new applications; the value and potential of the existing materials across our city is immeasurable.

	URBAN TREE RECOVERY

	The trees in our city are arguably one of the most precious resources we have access to; Revival has invested everything in building this local infrastructure which puts responsible handling of this resource within reach.Less than 2 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, Revival has built Australia’s only inner-city timber mill and kiln operation, launching its Urban Tree Recovery initiative.

	&#60;img width="2400" height="1600" width_o="2400" height_o="1600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/1975eb864f629432d84ccef0057c0f20234953123df491ff1cbf763a7e1b759b/RP_UTR_05.jpg" data-mid="182252207" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/1975eb864f629432d84ccef0057c0f20234953123df491ff1cbf763a7e1b759b/RP_UTR_05.jpg" /&#62;
&#60;img width="2400" height="1600" width_o="2400" height_o="1600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/ba9b1b5edc8d1c100411018ecbc2790741270754eac9fc7aba2a8053cbc63da8/RP_UTR_12.jpg" data-mid="182252214" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/ba9b1b5edc8d1c100411018ecbc2790741270754eac9fc7aba2a8053cbc63da8/RP_UTR_12.jpg" /&#62;

	Spread across 4000m2 in Collingwood, the initiative is specifically designed to make it easier for people to utilise the trees which need to be cut down in our city; we have removed the commercial barriers-to-entry that are commonly perceived as reasons why a higher use for felled trees is not possible.

Trees can be stored here for free.

The dried timber can be stored here for free.

If the tree is from public realm, and there is a plan to repurpose the timber back into public realm, we will cap our costs for milling and drying, to be lower than the cost of purchasing the equivalent amount of new timber.

Revival does not sell timber, or any other material; our mission is to normalise resourcefulness and we deliver on this mission by helping people use what they already have, so they retain ownership of their existing resources and repurpose them into new applications they are creating.

“Revival’s Urban Tree Recovery initiative gives us the opportunity to look at our project with a fresh vision. Giving us the capacity to respond to these existing materials, and in doing so giving back to the site and the community, is such a compelling proposition. The ability to be resourceful and deliberative is a mindset we now take forward. Without this option being available, these trees would have become wood chips so we’re very grateful for the potential that has been unleashed!”

Our investment in this initiative is driven by the disarming reality that mulching of trees has become a normalised, acceptable outcome for huge numbers of trees across our city.

Many of these trees have been a vital part of our communities for well over 100 years; providing shelter, protecting us from heat exposure, beautifying our streets, and literally facilitating life.

Our hope is that our Urban Tree Recovery initiative will lead to the introduction of policies that make it mandatory for this precious resource to be handled appropriately; we propose controls such as resource management plans which lead to highest and best use for felled trees, and policies which curate a legal framework that cultivates resourcefulness.

When trees from our city need to be cut-down, we have made it possible to approach this resource as responsible custodians; a stark departure from the wasteful, indulgent practices which have sadly become the norm. We can do better than mulch.

	YOU DON’T DECIDE WHAT’S WASTE, YOUR COMMUNITY DOES

As an industry, as a community, as individuals — if we have no use for certain existing materials, and we don’t believe it’s worth trying to sell them, we generally reach a conclusion that they are waste. This typically results in destroying them and sending them to landfill.

No authorities challenge this conclusion, nobody else in the community is consulted, and there is no infrastructure or mechanisms offering an accessible, sustainable alternative…&#38;nbsp;you are alone in your assessment of whether something is waste.

	&#60;img width="2400" height="1601" width_o="2400" height_o="1601" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/cea142d02df3380fdeeb3b442f2c27d7c9275d985ab1143ec454eaa911e9ba8a/RP_COOPERATIVE_01.jpg" data-mid="161975275" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/cea142d02df3380fdeeb3b442f2c27d7c9275d985ab1143ec454eaa911e9ba8a/RP_COOPERATIVE_01.jpg" /&#62;

The purpose of the Revival Cooperative app is to facilitate large scale collective review of this “waste” to see if anyone has a use for it, before a conclusion is reached that&#38;nbsp; landfill is the best outcome.

Entirely free to use and free to download, upload your ‘waste’ and invite the possibility of re-use before sending it to landfill.

The Cooperative is not a platform for commercial exchange and nothing is bought or sold on this platform. The Revival Cooperative is a community of people who are motivated to decrease our collective landfill quota, it’s not a space for purchasing or selling materials….it’s a space to seek and explore alternatives for the existing materials which we currently refer to as “waste”.

	&#60;img width="2400" height="1600" width_o="2400" height_o="1600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b4869cc75c9752da4545519b693d3ad42bef3417d06f65712f7ccec0e68a113b/RP_COOPERATIVE_02.jpg" data-mid="161975276" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/b4869cc75c9752da4545519b693d3ad42bef3417d06f65712f7ccec0e68a113b/RP_COOPERATIVE_02.jpg" /&#62;

	WANT TO WIN THE WAR ON WASTE?

Make re-use your first response. Make landfill your last resort.

This App is for you: every individual, every household, every business, every architect, every builder, every council, every developer, every trade, every designer, every manufacturer, every supplier, every consultant, every school, everyone.

Ask your architect to use this app.

Ask your builder.

Ask the developer you work for.

Ask your demolition contractor.

Ask your business.

Ask your neighbour.

Ask your supplier.

Ask your school.
Consider also, that when it comes to energy consumption,&#38;nbsp; re-use and repurposing are both better outcomes than recycling.

One person’s trash is another persons treasure? Let’s get these people talking.

Destructive practices have become normalised and even encouraged, it’s all we’ve known as an industry and it’s all that’s been available.

A couple of centuries of linear, consumption-driven traditions and systems have cultivated a collective deficit of resourcefulness.

So much of what is currently sent to landfill, could be utilised by others.

PROJECT
Head Office and Hospitality/Retail Tenancy, Collingwood

ROLE&#38;nbsp;
Principal Contractor, Existing Materials Consultant, Furniture Maker

BACKGROUND With the primary investment being made in transforming an existing 100-year-old building into a fully compliant and super efficient mixed-use facility; we describe this project as ‘the poster-child of adaptive re-use’. The site was the former home of PBS radio station for 25 years and the main structure of the building hadn’t been altered for a century; significant structural modifications involved significant deconstruction of existing materials, every last item has been safely kept in Revival Zero Footprint Repurposing facility, ready for re-use throughout the new design. Working for a client who is constantly seeking and supporting sustainable initiatives is a dream scenario for Revival, particularly when the final outcome will be a sophisticated, refined aesthetic, one which will certainly help combat the inaccurate, boring stigma that recycled = rustic.

IMPACT A compelling example of adaptive re-use, which really is the nirvana when it comes to utilising existing materials, and easily the most sustainable way that we can approach urban development to align with evolving requirements.
